A REVIEW OF SHHH… BY KATHERINE MACKENZIE-SMITH
I was excited when I read that certified Beautiful You Life Coach and Assistant Trainer Katherine Mackenzie-Smith was writing an E-Book for introverts. As an introvert myself, and having coached many an introvert, I know how important it is for us to embrace the gift of our introverted nature.
Below I have summarised some of my favourite messages from Shhh…An introverts guide to creating inner calm, outer quiet, and an exceptionally beautiful life.
Identify and embrace your (introverted) uniqueness
If you are a regular reader of my blog, you would know that I am passionate about helping people discover and embrace their uniqueness in order to best be of service to themselves and the world. This is the main reason why I love Katherine’s Shhh… it encourages her readers to get to know themselves better and to embrace their true selves. She does this through her own personal stories – and through exercises and guiding questions too. By the end of the book, you should have a deeper understanding of the intricacies of your beautiful and introverted self.
Challenge the fictions around being an introvert
Over time, so many myths and fictions have been built up about introverts that simply aren’t true. In Shhh… Katherine challenges these myths and encourages us to look within and examine our own truths. We can be a confident introvert. We can be a people person and an introvert too. We can shine bright, simply by being ourselves.
Shhh… your inner critic
Like all humans, introverts face the challenge of not letting their inner critic paralyse them. In Shhh… Katherine provides strategies for becoming aware of your inner critic and learning to speak to yourself in a more kind and gentle way. This is integral to embracing your uniqueness and giving yourself permission to shine.
Prioritise down time & your energy
I personally believe that self care and down time are essential to living a healthy, happy and purposeful life. When you take care of yourself, you are much more likely to feel clear-headed, energised, creative, inspired and productive. This is a topic that I have blogged about, and coached most of my clients on, since launching my business and blog. So I was nodding my head and smiling as I read Katherine share tips and advice on creating your own delicious recipe for energising yourself and her tips for actually making it happen.
Quiet your mind
In Shhh… Katherine talks about how busy the mind of an introvert can be. How we analyse, dream, think, and wonder. She offers strategies for how we can quiet the mind and how we can use our thoughtful nature to our advantage. She provides practical tips and exercises on mindfulness, meditation, visualisation, journaling, prompts and more that will help us find the stillness and presence that we sometimes crave. She has even collaborated with the talented Sonesence to create a beautiful Quiet Mind meditation which can be purchased as part of the Shhh… bundle.
Find your people
One of the biggest struggles and lessons that I’ve personally experienced in my life as an introvert has been to find ‘my people’. When I was younger, I constantly tried to please everyone, resisted my introverted nature, and tried to force myself to be more extroverted. Finding supportive and uplifting people – people who get me – and managing boundaries in my relationships have been a difficult but valuable lesson to learn. In Shhh… Katherine discusses many of the dynamics and difficulties that introverts face in social situations and relationships. She provides tips and advice on how to ‘find your people’, to manage boundaries, to say “no” and not feel guilty, and to be you in social situations.
There are so many more lessons that I could share from Katherine Mackenzie-Smith’s Shhh… (e.g., on stepping out of your comfort zone, shining bright), but I think it is best that you get your hands on your own copy! Make yourself a nice cuppa, pull out your fave journal, curl up on the couch, make a date with Shhh… and see what you learn about your beautiful introverted self.
